In March 2017, I received an email from my undergrad comp teacher asking if I had an orchestra piece at the ready for a performance on the Mississippi Symphony's Composer's Forum, and if not, could I write something? I said "Sure, can I write for string orchestra?" He said I could and that the conductor needed the piece on Monday.....It was Saturday. 

I got to work immediately and the piece actually came very naturally and quickly, partially because it had to. However, it was a great experience because it reminded me that sometimes, the best art is spontaneous.
